Banks Offering Financial Assistance to Government Employees & Military During the Shutdown

ACISAA Family:
Some financial institutions have provided more details on their assistance to members during the shutdown, and other organizations are offering additional resources (some relevant to government employees, some to military, some to veterans). Please see details below:
USAA: 0% interest loan equal to the amount of your net pay, from $500 to $6,000. It’s designed to help if your pay is disrupted. To qualify you need to:
Have direct deposit set up for a USAA Bank checking or savings account as of the federal payment disruption date.
Receive at least one qualifying direct deposit to that same account within 30 days before the start of the disruption.
Repayment: You need to repay the loan within 3 months of funding. Payments will be split into 2 equal installments. The first is due in about 60 days and the second in about 90 days.
Special Assistance Loan* up to Member’s net pay for one month at 5.99% APR** for up to 12 months and the option to defer payment for up to 60 days***
Deferred Loan Payments* by request on existing Justice Federal Consumer Loans and VISA credit cards. Members requesting and qualifying for a Consumer Loan payment deferment may obtain a deferment for up to 30 days. Based on the length of the Federal Government shutdown, Members may request an additional 30-day deferment***
Mortgage Assistance* may be available, please inquire with a Justice Federal Mortgage Counselor
Financial Counseling: Access to free, confidential financial counseling from our partner GreenPath Financial Wellness to help you manage your finances. Navy Federal Credit Union - Loan amounts (maximum $6,000) are calculated based on the amount of the most recent direct deposit of pay that was made to your account prior to your pay interruption. Your pay is impacted by the shutdown
You've set up direct deposit of pay with Navy Federal
You're a Federal government employee
PenFed members may qualify for an interest-free loan in the amount of their net pay (up to $6,000) through its government furlough Direct Deposit Assistance program. PenFed also offers an emergency relief loan at the lowest available rate for a personal loan product.
Thrift Savings Plan will continue its normal daily operations and the ThriftLine will remain open. Additional information on www.tsp.gov/shutdown. Members can also review this fact sheet for account holders who enter administrative furlough.
Military OneSource, Personal Financial Counselors and Military Family Life Counselor services will continue to provide career, financial and non-medical counseling as these services are paid by already funded contracts.

Cohen Veterans Network. This organization offers accessible mental health care to veterans, service members, and their families.
Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW). The VFW provides financial grants to active-duty service members and their families experiencing unexpected hardship due to military-related activity.
American Red Cross The Red Cross provides financial assistance and other support for military families. Your local chapter can help process military aid society requests if one isn't nearby.
TRICARE The Defense Health Agency authorizes TRICARE contractors to continue providing healthcare services during a shutdown, so beneficiaries should feel no significant effects on their medical care.
American Legion has a temporary financial assistance program through their American Legion Veterans and Children Foundation https://www.legion.org/get-involved/community-programs/temporary-financial-assistance
Veteran Affairs. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA): VA medical facilities and clinics remain operational during a shutdown. Veterans' benefits, including compensation, pension, and education, continue to be processed and delivered without interruption. Veterans Crisis Line: This resource is available 24/7. Call or text 988 and press 1 for confidential support.
Civilian Unemployment. some government workers may qualify for Unemployment Compensation for Federal Employees (UCFE), which follows the same rules as state unemployment benefits.
